If there was a lot of sound coloration, they wouldn't sound so very different with the 2 different bridges. (2nd video, with and without a CA bridge, haha - skip to 1:20)Īs you can see, they represent the character of the instrument very well. I paid basically the same thing I would've paid for a DM, except it is now permanently mounted inside my instrument (unless the blu tack ever falls off, in which case I'll just use another piece). I would personally recommend the JJBs (I got the 20mm version), as far as value goes, and that way you don't HAVE to wait. Other than the casing around it, I don't think there's very much difference between them. I think that other than maybe size-wise, that all piezos pretty much are going to sound the same. I planned on getting another to mount inside my F-hole and was fortunately talked out of it (too big to fit in there) by some folks here who suggested I check out JJB pickups. I've owned the stick on DM pickup in the past (30 years ago), and loved it. Just a quarter-inch (0.63cm) in a different direction can make a big difference in sound. If in doubt, it's quick and easy to try another location. So you're not stuck with wondering whether or not you chose the right location. You can easily move them around on a whim to try to fine-tune the sound. ![]() One thing about external stick-on pickups, even though they're kind of a nuisance, at least you have infinite choices as to placement of the darn things. ![]() So now I'm just ignoring it and I've reverted back to the Dean Markley pickup instead. I *thought* I'd sufficiently tested for the best location, but apparently not, because I didn't like the sound of it after it was permanently glued in place with superglue. Aside from that, I was satisfied with its performance, so I bought another identical one and have just made sure to be extra careful with it.Īt one point I got the bright idea to 'upgrade' and buy an internal pickup of a different brand, not K&K but that other (lesser-priced) brand that people mention here occasionally. I broke my first one by not being careful enough to avoid bending/straining the cord where it joins the pickup. Can they be taken on and off repeatedly?Yeah but it's fragile where the cord goes into the pickup itself, it won't tolerate much rough handling.
